...I have been feeding
Equilibra to my homebred horse for the past two years. He is from a Fell crossed with a
Part-Bred Arab, designed specifically for Endurance work, and is now nine years old.
He has a very fizzy
temperament and it was difficult to feed him to maintain condition whilst keeping energy
at manageable levels, until we were introduced to Equilibra. He now keeps his weight
throughout the season, looks in good enough condition to show him and yet approaches his
work reasonably calmly.
Whilst we were
competing in 25mile CTRs, I only used Readigrass, unmolassed sugar beet and the daily
ration of Equilibra, with ad-lib forage (hay in winter, grass in summer), but now we are
competing in 40 CTRs, and have just completed our first 50-miler, I have added in
Energest, which gives him the energy he needs without turning him wild.
Both our horses
are given a feed of Readigrass and Energest at Vet Checks/Gates and eat up well, going on
to finish the ride in good condition.
I am hoping to
compete in my first race ride at some time this season- I never thought that when I bred a
foal, we would have gone so far'.
